Foolish Thief

It is from a long time ago. Once, a rich merchant came to the court of King Akbar to ask for help from Birbal. Some of that businessman’s goods were stolen. Now the businessman suspected that one of his servants had robbed him. But since he had many servants, he was not able to catch the real thief.

When he told about his problem to King Akbar, then Maharaj Akbar gave the responsibility of finding a solution to this problem to his smartest minister Birbal. Hearing this, Birbal thought of a clever plan and called the merchant’s servants.

General Secretary Birbar gave a stick of equal length to each servant. And then told them all that by the next day the thief’s stick would grow two inches. This will happen only to the one who has stolen the merchant’s goods.

The next day Birbal called all the servants again in the emperor’s court. He noticed that one servant’s stick was two inches shorter than the others.

Now Birbal came to know about the real thief. He knew who the thief was.

The foolish thief had shortened his stick by two inches because he thought it would actually grow by two inches. In this way Birbal Sen very cleverly caught the real thief.
